« The Pic du Midi de Bigorre is a natural vantage point in the Pyrenees nicely located in the center of the chain […]. Once you have visited Gavarnie and the Pic du Midi, you know the two most wonderful things that the Pyrenies may offer the curious people.
The easiest ascent to the Pic starts from Barèges : Less than four hours are enough to walk from Barèges to the summit ; three hours if you ride a horse. From the top, the sight is indefinable : the impression one gets with the view  on the hills is marvellous. From Pau to Toulouse, one can see the towns or the rails. On the west, a bluer line cuts the horizon, is it the ocean ? On the opposit side, the contrast is complete. On one side, the background is distant places, on the other side a thousand peaks rise, marking the limit of the horizon as a huge gate […]. The top of the peak is crouned by a weather station. »
